1. 1978 Kawasaki Kl250 Manual

Picked up this Kawasaki in WI for $400. Drove there, took it apart and put it in the car and drove back home. Frame and motor fit in the back seat.

Muffler, fenders, wheels, forks, tank went into the trunk. Took less than an hour to take apart. Engine was seized because the magneto was heavily corroded. It's free now and we're waiting for a puller so we can clean it up the rest of the way. Carb has been cleaned.

It was quite bad. Electronics are a mess, no battery, headlight pieces missing, and the seat is thoroughly taped. Chain and rear sprocket need replacing. Tank is clean, air cleaner missing a cover. We are finding used parts, but no new parts when it comes to the magnito/stator and the coil. The guy at the local bike shop said to find a coil that matches the specs of the one we need and use it. Problem is we don't see any specs listed with the used parts.

The shop manual says the following: A1. Primary Winding - 1 Ohm A2. Secondary Winding - 5.9 K Ohms (difference of 4.9) The coil that we were given with the bike (was not on bike and does not match pictures) shows: B1. Primary Winding - 2.3 Ohms B2. Secondary Winding - 7.6 Ohms (difference of 5.3) The difference between the two differences above is very small, just.4 Ohms.

The description in the manual of how a coil works leads me to believe the difference between the primary and secondary windings is the key. I'd have to type it in to show you as there are no.pdbs out there for this specific service manual. We're going to hook it up and see if we get spark.
